Wickham Farms CSA

Growing Fresh, Local Fruits & Vegetables Since 2010

When does the CSA season begin? What do you grow?

Our first pick up of the season begins mid June. The exact date will vary depending on the growing year. We will notify you via email when the season will officially begin once we have it determined.

We grow : Apples, arugula, beans, beets, blueberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cantaloupe,  carrots, cauliflower, celery, celery root, cherries, corn, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, grapes, herbs, honeydew melons, Kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers, radishes, spinach, strawberries, Swiss chard, squash, tomatoes, watermelon, Zucchini and more!

What share size is best?

That is a great question! If you are new to our program, our grab & go share with a U-Pick add-on may be the safest bet. The quantity and variety of fresh produce can be a bit overwhelming for a new member and coming to pick up a smaller share every week helps to ease you into the routine. If you really love your veggies, have a larger family, or are big on freezing, canning, etc. then our full share is the best value for you. We do allow families  to split our on farm share options.

What if I don't like certain fruits or vegetables?

We work hard to try to help you discover new ways to use your vegetables so that you might find a new way to prepare them and love them! We do understand that not everyone has the same tastes so we try to give you as many choices as possible when it comes to your share make up. For our Full and Bi-weekly shares we will typically offer choice items so that you can cater your share to your family’s tastes. We also set-up a member swap table to allow you to trade items with other members. Finally, splitting a share with a friend is often a great way to trade out some of the items that you may not want. Because our Grab & Go share focuses on the “staple” vegetables and is pre-boxed for you, there are no choices with that share.

How does splitting a share work?

We allow our members to split any of our three share options. How you decide to split the share is completely up to you! You can split it by week (one person comes on odd weeks, the other on evens, etc), by item, or whatever other way works for you. Both share members will receive all Wickham Farms CSA communications. Our only requirement with share splits, is that if you both are going to be picking up on the same day – that you come to pick up together at the same time so that we can ensure that you receive the proper quantities of each item.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept all major forms of payment. Cash, credit, debit, check and money orders. Payment can be mailed to 1315 Sweets Corners Road Penfield, NY 14526.

Do you use GMO seeds?

No, we do not grow any GMO crops for our CSA program.

How does pick up work?

For our Full and Bi-weekly shares, pick up is “farmers market style” – meaning that we will have all of the harvested and rinsed fruits and produce set out in bins in our barn. Each item will be labeled with a quantity or weight. You then will go around the room with your bags and select the individual items that look best to you based on the quantity or weight that we give you. Some items will be choice items, meaning that you will have some flexibility on what you choose (ex. 1 lb of mixed greens consisting of any combination of arugula, mizuna, kale, swiss chard, etc., some will just be quantity based – 2 heads of lettuce, etc.). Once you have finished picking out your share, we invite you to cut fresh herbs from the herb garden and then go into our fields to pick your own additional vegetables and flower bouquets based on what we have available that week. Pick your own is completely optional although we strongly encourage it!

For Grab & Go shares, you simply need to show up between 4PM – 7PM on Tuesday. We will help to load your box into your car and then you are all set. You are more than welcome to go into the herb garden to pick fresh herbs if you would like to. Grab & Go shares do have the option to add “Pick Your Own” for an additional cost.

Do I have to pay in full when I sign up?

Nope! We require a $100 deposit to reserve your share for the upcoming season. You can then pay your remaining balance in as many or as few payments as you would like leading up to April 30th. In light of the  COVID19 crisis, we recognize that this might be difficult.  We can accommodate a more flexible payment plan for those in need.  Please call to request a payment plan. We are here for you! (585) 747-7790

Do I have to work on the farm as a part of my share?

Nope! We make sure to do all the hard work for you. We plant, grow, weed, harvest, rinse and trim your fruits and produce as needed. We do allow members to “Pick Your Own” additional fruit and vegetables directly from our fields. This is not required (but it’s super satisfying!).

What is member "Pick Your Own"?

Each pickup day and Saturday of the season, we allow our members to enter our fields to pick additional quantities of fruits and veggies that we have extra of as a part of their membership (additional cost for Grab & Go shares). This is a great way to pick out some additional items that you want even more of. It is also a wonderful way to spend family time or just time to yourself!
